Ground-water flow in a ,square-mile area of the south-central United States was modeled for the effect of withdrawing freshwater at the rate of nearly 10 billion gallons per day in from regional aquifers in the Mississippi Embayment, the Texas coastal uplands, and the coastal lowlands aquifer systems.
A major objective of the Gulf Coast Regional Aquifer-System Analysis is to use digital models of regional groundwater flow systems to develop better understanding and to improve management of the resource. Modeling is used to synthesize information about the aquifer systems and to Ground-water flow in the Gulf Coast aquifer systems hypotheses about the relative importance of the components of the systems.

Williamson and Hayes F. Grubb. The principal sources of ground water withdrawn in the Gulf Coast RASA study area are three regional aquifer systems; the Mississippi embayment aquifer system, the Texas coastal uplands aquifer system, and the coastal lowlands aquifer system (fig.

An aquifer can be compared to a bank account, and ground water occurring in an aquifer is analogous to the money in the account. Hydrologists refer to this type of accounting as a water budget.
Ground water can be recharged (deposited) by infiltration from precipitation, surface water. The Southeastern Coastal Plain aquifer system underlies an area of more thansquare miles in Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Florida and South Carolina.
The aquifer system ranks 15th in the nation as a source of groundwater for public supply, with about million gallons per day pumped for this and other uses in rows Texas Water.

The Coastal Lowlands aquifer system ranks fourth in the nation as a source of groundwater for public supply and fifth as a source of private domestic supply, providing about one billion gallons per day for this use. The cities of Houston, New Orleans, Baton Rouge and Mobile are included within the boundaries of the aquifer.
determined from the simulation of regional ground-water flow as part of the Gulf Coast Regional Aquifer-System Analysis project. In the simulation model, hydraulic conductivities are separated into two groups: coarse-grained sediments (sands) and fine-grained sediments (silts and clays).Cited by: 6.
The objectives of revitalizing and updating the NC-SC RASA models are to improve our understanding of the Atlantic Coastal Plain aquifer system flow paths and recharge; and to evaluate groundwater and surface-water interactions and the potential for reduction in both stream base flow and discharge to wetlands and estuaries as a result of increased groundwater.

The NACP aquifer system underlies an area with a population of more than 21 million people in six states. The NACP aquifer system ranks seventh in the nation as a source of groundwater for public supply, providing about million gallons per day for this use.
The cities of Washington, D.C., New York, Baltimore and Richmond are included within the boundaries of the aquifer. Large quantities of water for municipal, industrial and agriculture use are supplied from the aquifers in Tertiary and younger sediments over an area of aboutsquare miles in the Coastal Plain of Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Tennessee, and Texas.

The Mississippi Embayment aquifer system is composed of six regional aquifers covering aboutsquare miles in parts of Alabama, Arkansas, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, and Tennessee. The flow analysis presented in this report as part of the Gulf Coast Regional Aquifer-System Analysis study pertains to five aquifers in sediments of the Wilcox.
The maximum total sand thickness for the Gulf Coast Aquifer ranges from feet in the south to 1, feet in the north. Water quality varies with depth and locality, but is generally good in the central and northeast-ern parts of the aquifer and declines to the south where the productivity of the aquifer decreases.
